The first version of this website landed sometime in 2013. It was the first semester that I used a website as the textbook and curriculum of a course. I needed something digital with sound, message, vibe, image, and video that was not head-locked onto the digital learning management system of the schools where I was teaching since:
The very first class that I taught with its own public, digital space was Black Women's Rhetoric. This was the webspace and URL where it all went down. I needed a multimodal praxis where students could feel, see, and hear Black women that would in turn, catalyze their own multimodal work. Unbeknownst to me, this set the tone for the decade to come. Today, this website is a bit different. It is an archive of my own research and curricular work and student projects now. Every webpage that you click on here is content created by me or a student. These days, you can find the classes that I teach at Digital Blackness/Digirhetorics.... or.... Funkdafied... or.... Black Feminist Pedagogies... or Tracing the Stream. I will keep collecting students' projects here at this site though-- past and present--- as well as my own digital concoctions. If nothing else, this right here will serve as a reminder that alternative spaces to do the work we want are always available. Carmen Kynard, 2023 |
