This means we are making a public turn in our writing. In preparation for that, please expect that your classmates will read YOUR writing for our next class! Here are guidelines:
- Make sure that you fully explain your text that you read... do not assume your readers are familiar with your ideas or your writer's ideas
- AT LEAST start the piece with a catchy opening... let your introduction really draw people in so as not to bore your readers
- Be personal and informative?
Part II: Inkshedding
I. Choose a question below (based on last class) and write out your answer. Be prepared that at least 1/2 of your classmates will read your statement. Take your time with it and be as clear as possible.
III. Share an interesting point of agreement or disagreement.

- Can you fight for “women” or “women’s rights” without allowing patriarchy and misogyny to control the possibilities of your imagination?
- What would true gender neutrality mean? What would it look like? What would be gained? Lost?
- Can you truly advocate for radical gender freedom and creativity within the confines of western/Eurocentric norms?
- Does free will actually exist? How much do you control your gender identity? Can gender be an “individual” choice outside of social norms?
III. Share an interesting point of agreement or disagreement.
PART III: What would Jennifer Purvis and Adrienne Rich Talk about Today?
IV. Focus on your activist/theorist
Go back over your homework and underline what you see as ONE of Purvis or Rich's main arguments and what you HONESTLY think of these arguments.
V. Small Group Discussions (time depending)
VI. Swap Meet
Find someone from the other half of the room. Give them a QUICK overview of your reading. Then explain to them what your group members thought. ONLY share what your group thought---NOT what YOU thought. It ain't about you today... at least not at first. Think of it as INTELLECTUAL GOSSIPING!
VII. Joint Think Time
Together with your new partner, answer these questions: what would Purvis and Rich agree on and why? Would they be allies/homies? Would you roll with them? Why or why not?
VIII. Whole Class Discussion

V. Small Group Discussions (time depending)
- In small groups, each person should share what they selected as a main point and their thoughts on that main point.
- There is no facilitator today. You are each your own facilitators! On your homework (or on a piece of paper), jot down the comments of all of your peers. You are going to need to take those notes and share it with someone who did not read your piece. You will share your peers' comments, not YOUR opinions. This is a LISTENING EXERCISE!
